GROWING UP CATHOLIC
And this is where it all started!
After a year long illness that eventually propelled me from Public Elementary into a seven year Parochial system of education, suddenly, religion became the focus of my wellbeing.
Well, sort of.
(really this is a Lenten message you will find as you read on)
A few of the teaching Nun’s
discovered my artistic drawing ability and during the Christmas season, I was asked to create
on various Blackboards, Biblical drawings, and I also was able to write in Old English, free
hand, phrases, such as, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Christ have Mercy, and so on, all
around the room. The Sisters loved the idea, Lay teachers not so much.
So while learning my religious P’s & Q’s on making my First Communion, I, along with my fellow classmates
were inspired to understand that Jesus was ever present in our lives, the Sister’s
drilled that into us, at the start of Religion Classes. That reasoning has never left me,
especially through life-threatening experiences. The Presence of Christ is real.
We, as the people
receive this gift of Christ’s Presence through the reception of The Holy Eucharist.
The Lenten season is upon us, the sacredness of this time, at best, manifests the Presence of
Jesus in our lives.

*A prayer
God our Father, whose Son our Lord Jesus Christin a wonderful Sacrament has left us
a memorial of his Passion:
Grant us so to venerate the sacred mysteries of his Body and Blood, that we may
ever perceive within our selves the fruit of his redemption; who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
