Psalm 121 (KJV)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

This Lenten season, I want to reflect on this psalm. This was one of the three psalms that my late grandmother taught me while I was growing up. She loved the KJV of the Bible, so she made sure this was the version that I knew by heart! As I’ve gotten older, this psalm has served as a great source of comfort for me during difficult times. But now, it also serves as a connection to my grandmother. And whenever I am missing her, I can think of this psalm and be reminded of both God’s love and her love for me. My prayer for Lent this year is that we all remember that no matter how difficult life becomes, we can always trust that God will protect us and surround us in love. Amen.
