Red Door Pantry
On the third Saturday of every month from 10-11:15 am, people from adjacent zip codes can come to receive a bag of groceries and produce. Most of our food is purchased from the Second Harvest Food Bank, and they also donate the produce. We always need donations of toilet paper, cereal, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items. Volunteers from the church and the community help to distribute the food. Let us know if you can help!
Red Door Café
For over 30 years, St John’s has hosted a free community meal every Sunday at noon. A variety of churches and civic organizations from the community take turns preparing meals, serving and cleaning the kitchen. We are so grateful for all of our partners. Everyone is welcome to come eat.
Book Club
You are welcome to join our book club. Meetings are generally Tuesday evenings and usually in the parlor. Books are chosen by the group, and we share snacks and a glass of wine. Watch the calendar for details.
Campus Ministry
St. John’s campus ministry, Thinking Christians, reaches out to students at Youngstown State University. We have regular pizza nights, occasional concerts and outreach activities, and Sunday worship at 10:30. We have been reaching out to student veterans, providing a lunch during finals week. This fall we will be starting a cooking club for vets. We are grateful to the Diocese of Ohio for their generous support of this ministry.
Outward Bound Lunches
On Saturdays throughout the school year we serve a free lunch to students participating in YSU’s Outward Bound program, which prepares inner city students for college. Understanding that hunger is a barrier to learning, we provide nutritious and delicious lunches to support students for their future success. Help is needed preparing and serving the meals.
